“Our Provider” by Sheldon K. Bass
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." (Psalms 23:1 KJV)
This short verse is a profound statement with life changing implications, when its full meaning is grasped. The psalmist is assured that everything he will ever want or need shall be provided by the "Good Shepherd" of John Chapter 10. What a comfortable state of Mind!
David had experienced the Lord's provision throughout his life; as a shepherd boy, as the giant slayer, the hunted fugitive, and eventually as the highly celebrated King of Israel. Provision of every need; physical, spiritual and social, are found in the Lord.
David received protection through His trust in God. He gained the strength for victory in battle through faith. He obtained; clothing, food, housing, position and power through submission to the Lord's will. God also provided him loving discipline. David's say's, I'll never want for anything at all!
Through faith in Jesus Christ, we too can say along with the writer of the 23rd Psalm, "I shall not want!"
Thank you Father, for being our awesome provider of all we need. We praise you for providing us with the once and for all perfect sacrifice of your Son Jesus. Help us to trust you fully; to walk by faith, rather than by sight. And may we learn to love more perfectly, amen.
