"The Power of Forgiveness" by Anna Darlene Free Edmondson
Luke 23:34, NKJV: Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
God loved the whole world so much He sent His only Son to die on a cruel cross for our sins.
'Amazing Grace' was the song I got saved on. The words and melody of that powerful hymn pierced my soul. I needed forgiveness. I was lost and needed a Savior. I accepted Christ into my heart Easter Sunday in 1960.
The power of forgiveness can change one's destiny. It heals the broken-hearted and sets the captive free from self-made chains.
The early lives of Jacob and his twin brother Esau began with great dissension. After many years had passed, God worked mightily in each of their lives. "Esau ran to meet him [Jacob], and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him: and they wept." (Gen 33:4 KJV).
We read a similar scene in the New Testament of Luke's gospel. "But, when he [prodigal son] was a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."(Luke 15:20 KJV).
As Jesus cried, 'Father, forgive them ' from the cross, He was purchasing our eternal life with His precious blood. (Matt 26:28 KJV). To be a true follower of the Messiah, we must understand that our lives are not our own, but have been bought with the most expensive price.
Oh! Blessed truth. We can be forgiven by accepting Christ into our hearts.
