What comes to your mind when you think about Easter? Colorful eggs? Bunnies? A day of rest? Or maybe lots of candies? Trying to swim against the current during Easter is harder than it seems. As I try to center my attention on things above, I realize it is like trying to read your favorite novel, while standing in the middle of a 4th of July celebration! Too many sounds, colors and distractions.
But what is Easter really about? It is about the greatest event in history. It is about God descending from heaven to give us life, real life. It is about Jesus giving up His precious life on the cross for every single person in this world. It is about the indescribable love of God.
Easter is about second chances for callous, stubborn, incorrigible sinners. It is about Jesus dying on that cross for us, and us dying to sin for Him. It is about Him being resurrected by God’s power, giving us a chance to live righteous lives for His sake. It is the end of our old nature and the beginning of our new one.
Easter is an opportunity to praise the Lord; it is a chance for us Christians to fall in love with Christ again.
It is an opportunity to set things straight with our children as well. To let them know that even though colorful eggs and bunnies are not sinful, they shouldn’t take our eyes away from God. It is a time for centering our attention on God’s Word, gathering our family and sharing with them the precious Gospel of Jesus one more time. It is an opportunity to use the media for His glory and purpose, watching scenes that remind us of His grace.
Let’s never forget the meaning of Easter. That the reality of His love, the greatness of His sacrifice, and our new life in Christ motivates us to live not only a week, but every day for Christ’s glory!
