The most powerful words that Jesus spoke, as far as I am concerned, were said as He was dying on the cross. While His enemies mocked and ridiculed Him, Jesus said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." This was the climax of His whole ministry, and demonstrated clearly what His message was all about.
In a world where many bad things happen, it is easy to think that God is cruel, or impotent, or even non-existent - and too many are taking one of these positions today. BUT, the cross proves once and for all that God does love us and that His purposes towards us are only for our good. It makes no sense to sacrifice yourself for someone you hate, but it makes perfect sense to willingly do it for someone you love. John 3:16 summarizes this truth perfectly.
We may wonder why God used suffering as the means for our salvation - He would have found another way if there was one - but the cross shows us that He can be trusted. As you celebrate Easter in 2013, take time to reflect on the price God paid to bring salvation to you and to this world. ONLY the GOD of the Bible loves us that much.
