Have You Grown Since You Been Born
Acts 2:38 then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Genesis 21:8 and the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.
Proverbs 6:16-19 these six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
It comes a time in the life of a Christian that they must grow from glory to glory. There are things we must face and take. There are things that might come to take us out but we must endure until the end if we expect to see Christ and stand before the Father in Heaven. We have been given a path to follow and that path is lit up with a light from Heaven. In the process of time we learn more and more about following Christ unto perfection. In growing we learn how to forgive and be forgiven. In growing our faith is there to bring us before Christ that at the end we will hear Him say well done thou good and faithful servant. When we grow we encounter salvation through that same faith. Salvation through faith brings us to eternal life. In growing we draw nigh to God in our heart; we put away evil thoughts, lying, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, we stop bearing false witness against our neighbor, we stop blaspheming, and if God be our Father we learn how to love Him. We strive to make our election that has been preordained sure.
Abraham and Sarahís son Isaac grew and as he began to grow he had to be weaned from some things. Isaac had to be detached from of the baby things that we too have taken away from us. His feeding habits had to change with time. He had to eat meat soon after he gave up a diet of milk. It is uncharacteristic for a child to suck a bottle at age three or four. Isaac was the child of promise. They laughed at the fact that God told them they would have a son, so Isaac name means laughs. They laughed because of their ages; according to nature they were too old to conceive a child and bring him forth. The very thought was questionable and incredible. We have to be weaned from our own thoughts and take on the mind of Christ. This child and his parents grew to know God in a more significant way. They grew in his graces. It came a time that Abraham had to offer Isaac as a sacrifice; his only son of promise. Have you grown since you been born?
There are things we carry around in our lives that are detrimental to the flesh and spirit. These are things we develop a dependency on. In growing in Christ we have to be set free from unwholesome habits. We grow to fear God that can destroy the body and the soul. We grow to know the forewarning God gives us that says He have power to cast us into hell as well as kill us. We grow out of our own desperation and become desperate for Christ. Jesus said in John 12:26 if any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.
Friends can be weights and hinder the growth of the Christian. A friend can be a schoolmate, playmate, roommate, or companion that we are intimate with in some form. They may be our confidant, comrade, fellow pal, chum, crony, or buddy. Whatever we may call them they can stop us in our steps and pull us out of Godís order. They impede our growth and obstruct our way. Yes they can know your dreams and visions and block you from reaching your goals. They can interfere and keep you from that place in Christ as Joseph brothers tried with him. We need to check our acquaintances and see their motives for what they do. Friends can keep you shackled down, interrupt the flow of God, arrests your thoughts to curb them or oppose the work of God. Continuing to entertain what your friend wants rather than God will frustrate you and prohibit us from moving in the direction God wants us to. We can be in this earth to be the President of the United States but friends post interferences and obstacles that bar our way and we never reach that ordained place.
The enemy is there to prohibit or slow down Godís purpose in our lives. He tries to make us a disappointment to our heavenly Father by causing us to spoil what God has told us to do. Satan uses friendships in this world to make mass destruction of our lives. He uses insignificant things he imports into our lives such as lying, stealing, and deception. These are weights whether we believe it or not. When someone lies on you it causes others to not trust you. When someone will steal your ideas and writings it sets you back. When they steal your dreams and visions and try to manifest them before you, others think you are deceptive. Friends can become enemies of yours because of the weights they bring into your life unnecessarily. It hinders our growth and ruins friendships. Unhealthy relationships can hinder our growth.
Addictions can destroy the person and all those that come in contact with them. As we grow in Christ we have to drop off some things that comes against holiness and your new way of life; family, friends, and even addictions. Addictions are things we are devoted to in this world. Many think of people that is addicted is on drugs or alcohol. We can be an avid football or any other sports fan that will not make ourselves available to God during game time. They affirm their love for the game and will declare it to the world. They swear their love for other things donít come between their relationships with God. Anything that we put before God is an idol. Drugs keep one from being alert, attentive, vigilant or conscious in their everyday work toward growth in spiritual things.
When we are addicted to things other than what Christ has called for we stunt our growth. The things man will mostly hear concerning addictions are those on drugs or alcohol. Well thatís naturally true; but what about all that is not a drug or drink that has been fermented? These things can be just as chronic, dependent, fanatical, fixating, habituated, hooked on and obsessed about. We are inclined in our belief to think we are ok when we are not. We can be a me and I junkie; full of pride which is an abomination to God. A proud look doesnít make us look good it only make God see our madness. A lying tongue is what we donít want growing in our mouths for we shall surely have our part in the lake that burn with fire and brimstone. The murderer will answer to God and man for putting their hand to shed innocent blood. The heart devises wicked imaginations daily and man will do evil and think nothing on it. We run to do evil like we are running a marathon to get us to the mischief we love. We lie on our neighbor and each other like it is okay but sowing seeds of discord among our brothers and sisters is an abomination to God.
Have you grown since you been born? Even children naturally grow up; what wrong with us?
