“One of Them” by Susan Barnes
"One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him" Luke 17:15-16.
All ten lepers were cleansed, healed, and restored. They all received a touch from God but only one truly realized the enormity of what God had done for him. We too have been cleansed, healed and restored by God through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. But I wonder if we truly realize all that God has done for us. Do we understand the magnitude of the sacrifice that was made on our behalf?
This Easter are we like the nine who received cleansing, healing and restoration but are so familiar with the events of Easter that we haven't stopped to consider the cost? Have we been in Christian circles for so long that we take our salvation for granted? We live every day experiencing God's mercy and grace but sometimes we are barely aware of it.
The Bible teaches us that any sin requires the death penalty. Yet our punishment was paid in full on the cross and now God freely chooses to give us life; spiritual life; life in its fullness. If God were to do nothing more for us, this alone would be enough for us to spend the rest of eternity thanking him.
Let's be like the one leper who truly realized what God has done and come to him in praise, in thanksgiving and in worship.
