A Mountain-top Or A Little City.
Prophet Isaiah said, "Here am I and the children whom
the Lord has given me!
We are for signs and wonders..."
Thank God, Prophet Isaiah knew the purpose of God for him and his children. It is sad that many children of God are not aware of theirs. Those that have discovered the essence of their living are also troubled by the "spirits of Lot".
What is this?
Lot, like many believers, have God's mercy, favor, and grace in abundance. He was informed of the impending danger about to befall his territory.
What did he do?
1. He lingered because the spirit was in him. He did not take action on time. He did not know how to go about it, or had many things to do but did nothing.
He was dragged, with his family, outside the danger zone by the angels that were assigned to destroy Sodom and Gomorah.
2. He argued with the angels because the spirit was in him. He was not satisfied with the plan of the Lord. He had his own "better" alternatives: easy, plain, convenient and with no sacrifice. Are you one one of them? Follow the plan of God!
As it was with Lot, so it is with many believers. Sometimes when the Lord instructs them, they even quote the Scriptures to counter His instructions as if God can contradict Himself.
3. The spirit of fear was in him.
"...I cannot escape to the mountains; lest I die."
It was the Lord that organised his journey to the mountains for security reasons but he did not trust God and His arrangement. The plan was to prevent any evil from befalling him not to talk of death.
4. Lot had the "spirit of little things". He further disclosed,
"See now, this city is near enough to flee to
and it is a little one; please let me escape there (Is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live."
Lot prefered to exist rather than live. The Lord planned how he would live but because he wanted no pain, sacrifice or attempt to better his life, he chose to exist only.
Many believers will easily quote the Holy Bible to condemn comfort, riches or wealth. They forget that it is the Lord that gives power to get wealth and eat it. Read Ecclesiastes 6:1; Deuteronomy 8:18.
5. Lot suffered from the spirit of unbelief by which he delayed the angels the Lord sent from taking action on time. Hear the words of an angel to him,
"Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there."
The Lord always wants to elevate His people and make them more comfortable as He deemed fit. It is sad that many of them either delay or prevent Him because of their unbelief.
Let me share this story with you:
I read a piece recently that a believer was commissioned by God to write a book. He did not take steps at all.
After many reminders that yielded no result, the Lord raised another person who obeyed Him immediately.
The book was published and is now a bestseller. The first man obtained a copy and read it. He contacted the author and disclosed that he was the first who was given the title and all the Bible verses but that he failed to write it.
Are you also ready to move to the mountains or you are contented with a little-city-status?
This may be your paid employment or small income that seem to satisfy you. Do you know what? The Lord wants you to go to the mountain top where the breeze and the view are better. Are you ready to go there? Hurry up! Go in the name of Jesus Christ.
Let it be clear to you that I'm not encouraging you to become worldly or be uncontented with what the Lord has done for you. I only want you to move to that higher level that your Maker plans for you.
NB: Quoted verses from New King James Version are: Isaiah 8:18; Genesis 19:18-19,22; Ecclesiastes 6:1; Deuteronomy 8:18
