From the Cradle to the Cross

Just a manger, filled with straw
Shepherds looking on in awe
The babe crying in the hay
Mom and Dad kneel down to pray.

Makeshift cradle, lowly creche
Came the Son of Righteousness
Sent by God to testify
Hope for sinners; you and I.

Roman soldiers laid him down
Placed on his head a thorny crown
Nailed his feet and hands in place
Tore his clothes, spit in his face

Suffering servant took my sin
Gave me a new life with him
Healed my wounds and set me free
On that hill called Calvary.

Wooden cradle, wooden beam
Sinful nature to redeem
Hoisted high for each mistake
Laid down his life for my sake.

Joy, then sorrow, then despair
Christ's story doesn't end there
The grave won't hold my Lord down
Waits for me with golden crown.

Resurrected, reigns on high
Preparing a place for you and I
Accept, believe, serve him alone
And we shall gather 'round his throne!
