The Inner Circle
John 1:29, NKJV: "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
If our heavenly Father had not decided before the very foundation of the world to love us, where would we be?
He made a choice to love us so that we could have permanent fellowship with Him.
We have a choice everyday whether we are going to love Him back. Will we daily commune with Him after He died for that intimate fellowship to exist, or are we just going to let one day slip into the next? Will we allow His sacrificial death to be one for the history books, having no bearing on our everyday lives?
Peter, James and John were the disciples closest to Jesus while He was on this earth, they were invited by Him so that they could see His transfiguration as His face shone before the Father. Why were they taken by Jesus to go and not the others? I believe it was because they daily sought Him, wanting to be as intimate as possible with their Lord. That is what Jesus seeks from each one of us.
But the closest of the disciples to Jesus was John. When we entrust what we care about most to someone, that speaks volumes. Jesus entrusted John with the care of his mother.
I long for that type of intimacy with my Lord. I want Him to trust me as He did John.
