A witness gives a strong testimony of what he knows and, if possible, offers evidence of what he has seen.
The apostle John had an electrifying proclamation. He testified that he was a bulls-eye witness that Christ came in the flesh. In those days this revelation was vital, since the agnostics wanted to discredit any information about Christ. John had the key evidence to expose this false and destructive teaching that denied Christ’s actual appearance.
You see, John had a close, personal relationship with Jesus. He had seen the Godhead with his own eyes; he had heard Him with his own ears, and his hands had touched Him. John insisted that Jesus, “the eternal life” who existed with His Father from the very beginning, “had appeared” and interrelated Himself with mere humans. John was one of the close twelve that followed Jesus. He should know. Therefore, John could boldly testify that Jesus Christ was truly human; that He was the Word of Life, and that He was the “eternal life that was with the Father” (I John 1:1-3 NIV). What a perfect testimony, straight from His own experience!
The scenes and characters have changed since then. Many people in today’s society have never read God’s Word and likely don’t know of John’s testimony. All they may have heard was untruths. John wants people of today to understand this evidence too, so that this fallacy can be revealed.
Believers today can experience the same close, wonderful fellowship John found with “the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ” (I John 1:4 NIV). Even in our time this same close relationship with His Son and the Spirit of God, the One who was present at the very construction of time, can be breathed in us, and rest on us, just as the apostles had experienced.
You don’t have to be an eyewitness like John to have this closeness with the Spirit of God; you only need a desire to pursue Him. Your own testimony then will be active within you, and bubbling over to share as first-hand knowledge.
Amazingly, His Spirit hasn’t diminished or grown weary. No! After multiple generations, this same Spirit of God is still Powerful and Mighty. The Godhead relationship, which was not limited to John’s century, is still known to connect with all those who are blood–washed believers and those who are searching and looking for spiritual answers.
The Ancient of Days, as the prophet Daniel refers to God Almighty (Daniel 7:9, 13 NIV), challenges you to personally experience Him in that close relationship. You certainly will endorse John’s witness when your spirit is quickened by God’s Spirit. Become connected with the One who has always existed from eternity. Be a red hot witness for Him.
