The GPS (global positioning system) is one of the greatest inventions since the cell phone. This system if activated in a vehicle will tell the driver where they are and how to get to where they want to go if it is asked. It literally talks to the driver and gives turn by turn directions to the destination desired. If you don’t follow the directions it will tell you that you are going the wrong way. If you ignore it’s warning you will get lost.
Followers of Jesus need help as they journey through life and sometimes need help to get back on track spiritually. We may intentionally veer off course because we think we know best, or drift away slowly, failing to notice we’re moving further and further from the way that God wants us to go. God has not left us on our own. He has given all believers the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17; 1 Cor. 3:16), who convicts us of our sin (John 16:8,13). When we’re going off course, He sounds the alarm and triggers our conscience (Gal. 5:16-25) that says; “16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” We may ignore the warning, but we do so to our own detriment (Isa. 63:10; Gal. 6:8a) that say; “But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. ; For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;” What comfort it is to know that God is at work in our lives through the convicting work of the Holy Spirit! Cf. (Rom. 8:26-27). With God’s help and guidance, we can continue on a path that is pleasing to Him and leads us to daily victory and final glorification at His appearing. As stated in. (I Pet. 1:7) that says; “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”
Remember this: We’re NEVER without a helper, because we have the Spirit within.
“Holy Spirit, we would hear
Your inner promptings, soft and clear;
And help us know Your still, small voice
So we may make God’s will our choice.” D. DeHaan
