“So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
When we hear reports about thousands of homeless refugees as a result of war or famine we may wonder did God really create individuals or did he create a species and let it run its course. Believing that God created individuals means we may need to wrestle with other difficult questions. Why would God allow some individuals to be born into such atrocious situations? Why would God allow scientists to conceive a baby in a test tube?
Nevertheless we need to believe the truth and the Bible teaches us that God does create individuals. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5) and “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). While this means we have to work through some awkward questions, it also means we believe that no person is a mistake or an accident. Although a person may be unplanned in our economy they were never unplanned in God’s. “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4).
Here is the basis of our self-esteem. We are His unrepeatable creation and therefore special to Him. He takes a personal interest in all that concerns us. We are important to God.

Thank you so much for this lovely and thoughtful contribution. We are indeed God's special and unique creation and no one can change that. We need to be reminded that, "Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions." (Ecclesiastes 7:29) Let us keep praising God for his goodness and mercy. Bless you.
