“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 New International Version
Does this passage mean that no rich people will get into Heaven?
Really? Wasn’t Abraham considered rich? What about Jacob or Joseph who served under the pharaoh?
So what does it mean then?
It means that we know that we need spiritual enrichment by the Holy Spirit every single day.
It is not a one off deal where you are spiritually blessed once and do not need refilling every day.
Do you drink enough water today and believe you do not ever need to drink water again?
Then so too it is with the Holy Spirit. We need Him every day.
Okay so what type of riches will you be blessed with?
You think if you are blessed with the Holy Spirit you can go out and buy a lottery ticket and will win?
No, we need the Holy Spirit to enrichen us with a spirit of serving others. We need that every day.
When we serve others as an act of dedication to Jesus then we are storing up treasures in Heaven. It need not be anything big like selling everything and giving it all to the poor. Simple acts of kindness, when done as a form of worship to Jesus, are just as important as the big things.
Prayer: Thank you Beloved Chanan (God is gracious) for providing opportunities to serve You every day and that no matter how big or small they are, they are all precious in Your loving eyes. I give thanks for this blessing in the name of He who was kind and loving enough to me to suffer on a cross Jesus Christ. Amen.
May the sweet sunshine of Jesus' precious love bless you today and every day.
