You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Perfect peace. Sounds wonderful, doesnít it? I think I could endure any hardship this life could throw at me if I could stay in perfect peace. If I can focus my thoughts on the fact that God has it all under control and no matter what happens, he loves me and will work it out in the end, peace stays with me. Itís the ďkeeping my thought fixed on himĒ part thatís hard.
I have experienced the perfect peace mentioned in this verse on several occasions, but I wasnít able to stay there. I didnít keep my thoughts fixed on him, They went off in all different directions, trying to figure out what to do, how to handle the situation. The confusion, worry, fear and sometimes even anger crowded out God. Then thereís no room left for peace.
So, maybe itís time to exercise that muscle called self-control. Stop allowing worry to steal my peace. Stop letting fear take up residence in my mind. Stop trying to figure it out, because my solutions are never the ones that work, anyway. Time to rest in Christ and let him keep me in perfect peace.
