The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19: 11-12 New International Version
How does God speak to you?
Do you expect God to answer you with thunder and lightening like He did Moses on the mountain?
For me, God almost always speaks to me in a soft gentle whisper.
He did that one time when I was looking for work.
It was a soft whisper informing me to go to another town. No sooner did I step off the bus when offered a contract. It ended up being the best company to ever work for.
Sometimes it is God sending you somewhere.
It was a soft whisper that sent me to serve Him in Asia.
Through the team work of the Holy Spirit we guided many to Christ.
Sometimes it is to avoid danger.
One time it was to not get on a certain bus. It ended up that bus was in a terrible accident.
Sometimes God will whisper because He wants to be with me.
One time He whispered in my ear to go on a certain hike.
After many hours of hard climbing through the jungle on a hot muggy day there was a clearing on top of a small mountain.
As I sat there for a rest there were beautiful birds serenading me in the trees while surrounded by stunning wild flowers. A sunbeam broke through the clouds and bathed me with a warm glow.
It was the presence of God.
That is a very special moment in my life.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus Immanuel (God amongst us) for those special times when You softy whisper to me. I give thanks in Your gentle name. Amen.
