In John 14:6 Jesus said; "I am THE way, THE truth and THE life; NO MAN comes to the Father but through me." There is no way to soften these words! We either believe it to be true or we don't. It is no wonder that we, who call ourselves Christian, will incur the wrath of unbelievers. Follow Christ's proclamation with these thoughts!
The word "the" is a word that deals with something or someone exclusive, so that no other person or thing can follow it. By saying he is THE way, Jesus condemned every other way. He said that all other religions, philosophies, and secular teachings that reject him alone as the way to God are false! In this world of "tame Christianity" are we willing to stand on this and never deviate from it? YES! We must! As one person put it , Jesus is either who he said he is or he is a fanatical liar. Those of us who know him are fully aware that he is God incarnate and THE only way to the Father.
By claiming to be THE truth, I believe that he is saying that he is the source of all real truth, and that apart from him there is no truth. So whether we consider the laws of physics or any other truth man discovered outside the spiritual realm we understand that those truths originated in Christ before any man every held them to be true. Of course, we must also know in our hearts that all spiritual truth originated in Him too!
By claiming to be THE life, I believe he is saying that all life begins and continues to exist through him, and that without him there is no life. Since Jesus is God incarnate, we understand that the Godhead, in Genesis 1:26, began human life by saying; "Let US make man in OUR image and OUR likeness." Before that we see that all creation was made by God or the Godhead. Further scripture bears this out. The Holy Spirit "moved upon the face of the waters" (Genesis 1:2) -- It is also said of Jesus in the New Testament that "by him and for him were all things created." There is no mistaking these words to mean anything but that Christ was active in creation. So then all life began in Christ and he is indeed "The" Life.
To bring this message to those whose belief system will not line up with the claims of Jesus Christ is, at the least, a challenge to them and, at the worst, an insult to them that will bring cursing, violence or some other form of attack. Jesus told his disciples that they were not to be amazed if the world would hate them because "Even as he was not of this world so they also were not of this world."
The Bible also tells us that all who will live godly IN CHRIST JESUS will suffer persecution. When this persecution comes, don't take it personally." It is not you alone that the world rejects, but the Savior you bring to the world. Because you represent him, the unrepentant will reject you as well. Pray that God would open their spiritually blind eyes to the truth as he has done for you. Eternity never ends for the righteous and the wicked. We will all live forever, and hopefully we desire that those who oppose our Lord will find their way to him before it is eternally too late.
We have been richly blessed! God has opened our eyes to the truth! We have been delivered from our own spiritual ignorance and now we must share that with others. Revelation 12:11 (KJV) "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death." Hopefully this will be our testimony!
