2 Timothy 1:1-18 Jesus God And Never Forsake Persecuted Christians
In 2 Timothy 1:1-18 Paul Confirmed The Godship Of Jesus Christ. Paul Also Encouraged Christians To Utilize The Spiritual Gifts God Had Given Them. Paul Also Admonished Christians To Actively Support And Help Persecuted Christians. Please Prayerfully Turn Your Bibles To 2 Timothy Chapter 1. The 1611 AD King James Version Bible Will Be Used.
2 Timothy 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
Paul Often Felt The Need To Identify Himself As An Apostle Who Was Called Directly By Jesus Christ. Many Christians Did Not Believe That Paul Was Called Directly By Jesus Christ (Acts 9:1-11).
2 Timothy 1:2 To Timothy, [my] dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 2 Timothy 1:3 I thank God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; 2 Timothy 1:4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
Paul Viewed The Young Christian Timothy As Paul's Spiritual Son.
Paul Hoped These Three Things Upon Christians:
Grace- Grace Is God Showing Love, Forgiveness And Compassion Without Expecting A Return For Such Compassion.
Grace Has Confused Christians For Centuries. Many Christians Think That They Can Continue In Disobedient Sin Since God's Grace Abounds. This Is Not True. Before Jesus' Death On The Cross All Humans Were Sentenced To Eteranl Hell At Death. God Sent Jesus To Die And Save Obedient Humans From Eternal Hell.
This Is God's Grace (John 3:16). Saved Christians Are Now Commanded To No Longer Live For Themselves But To Obey The God Who Saved Them In His Grace. This Is The Bible's (And Only Acceptable) Definition Of "Grace" (Romans 6:2; Galatians 3:35; 1 Peter 4:2; John 15:10-15; Luke 6:46; 1 John 2:15-17).
Mercy-The Bible's God Is Totally Merciful But By No Means Will He Overlook Sinful Disobedience. Bible Obeying Christians Can Trust In God's Mercy When They Er In Sin (Exodus 34:6-7; Deuteronomy 4:31; 1 John 1:7-10; 1 John 2:1-10).
Peace- God Tells His Servants Not To Fear Or Worry. They Are To Have His "Peace Of God" (The Holy Spirit). Christians Have Peace Because God Will Never Leave Them Nor Forsake Them. They Will Live Eteranlly In Heaven With God (John14:1-26; Proverbs 29:25; Philippians 4:6-8; Hebrews 13:5-6; Proverbs 3:5-7; John 3:16; 1 John 3:2).
God The Father And Christ (Anointed Savior) Jesus-This Phrase Is Paul's And The Holy Spirit's Way Of Confirming That Jesus Christ Was In Fact Father God, Creator And Savior (Isaiah 9:6; Colossians 1:10-20; Isaiah 44:24; Isaiah 43:10-12; John 10:30-44; John 5:10-22; Philippians 2:4-12).
Paul Confirmed That Jesus Christ Was The God (YHWH) Of His Forefathers. Paul's Conscience Was Clean. He Did Not Betray YHWH For Jesus Because Jesus And Father YHWH Were One (John 10:30-44; John 5:10-22; Philippians 2:4-12).
Paul Had Agape Love For Timothy And Christians.
2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Both Timothy's Mother And Grandmother Were Diligent Servants Of The Lord. Paul Rejoiced That Timothy Was Of The Same Mind.
2 Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
Paul Encouraged Timothy Not To Let Anything Cause Timothy To "Shrink Back". Paul Himself Had "Laid Hands" Of The Holy Spirit Upon Timothy. Timothy Had Supernatural Gifts From God The Spirit (John 4:24). May All Bible Believing Gifts Discern Their Spiritual Gifts From God (1 Corinthians 12:1-31).
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Christians Never Have To Worry Or Fear Anything. Christians Can Do All Things By Jesus Christ Which Strengthens Them (Philippians 4:13).
All Christians Have God's Holy Spirit (John 3:1-8; John 14:1-26). With God's Holy Spirit We Christians Have:
Power-With God's Powerful Holy Spirit We Can Do All Things Through Jesus Chrsit (Philippians 4:13).
Love-If We Have God's Spirit We Have God In Us. God Is Love (1 John 4:8; John 3:16).
Sound Mind- Christians Are Not Fanatics. Nor Should Christians Act With Out A Sound (Stable) Mind Unless God Approves. "Walking On Water" Would Seem Irrational. Yet God Approved It For Jesus (Matthew 14:20-33).
2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Paul Admonished Timothy Not To Be Ashamed Of Jesus, Christians Or Those Suffering For Jesus Christ. Around The World Christians Are Persecuted By Those Who Hate And/Or Doubt Jesus (God). May We Remember These Christians In Our Prayers, Actions And Faith. May We Never Beleive That We Are Safe And Protected From Such Opposition(s). May We Christians Also Teach, Preach And Live The Testimony Of Our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ. By That Testimony, His Blood And The Word Of God Christians Will Overcome Satan And His Demonic Kingdom(s) (Revelations 12:11).
2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Heaven Bound Christians Were Called By God Before Time Began. Heaven Bound Christians Are To Live And Die For God's Will. No Longer Can Heaven Bound Christians Trust In Themselves Or In This Judged World (John 17:10-18; John 18:8-11; Revelation 17:1-16).
2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
God Approved Christians Are Heaven Bound. They Shall Never See Death But Will Transform Instantly Into Heaven's Immortality. God's Biblical Gospel Is Of The Holy Spirit And Is Lie (1 Corinthians 15:50-55; John 5:25; John 6:47, 63; John 3:16).
2 Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Jesus Called Paul To Primarily Preach To Non Israeli (Jewish) Humans. These Are Called Gentiles. This Is Why Paul's Gospel Was Often In Contrast To The Gospel Of Israeli (Jewish) Christians. Paul Was Severely Persecuted By The Israelis (Jews), Jewish Christians And The Non Jewish Gentiles. Yet Paul Trusted In The Lord Who Is Faithful (Acts 9:1-11; Acts 15:1-28; Proverbs 3:5-6; Hebrews 13:5-6).
2 Timothy 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 2
Timothy 1:14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
Christians Should Not Be Looking To This World For Guidance. Nor Should Christians Mix Things Of The World With Things Of God. Paul Exhorted Timothy To Hold Fast And Strong To The Sound Words And Doctrines Of Jesus Christ And The Holy Ghost (2 Corinthians 6:14; 1 John 2:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
2 Timothy 1:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
Phygellus And Hermogenes Were Of Another Gospel And Another Jesus. These Led The Christians In Asia Against Paul (2 Corinthians 11:4).
2 Timothy 1:16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: 2 Timothy 1:17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found [me]. 2 Timothy 1:18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
God Showed Onesiphorus' Household Mercy Because Onesiphorous Obeyed Jesus And Refreshed Paul. Onesiphorous Was Not Concerned With Worldly Ways.
May We Christians Never Be Afraid To Offer Prayers And Assistance To Fellow Christians In Need.
