A LETTER FROM THE GENERAL
Soldiers! My letter is just in time-because I always know when the time is right, so yes my timing is right. The battle has been fierce, that is evident from the daily battles you face. Have this in mind that you do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. You each individually got encrypted into the army by choice and for different reasons I must add. With that as the point of departure, it goes without saying that you are indeed supposed to work your salvation with fear and trembling-Philippians 2:12-“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”. I t would be imprudent for me to fail to mention the different causes each individual soldier is under the impression he is serving. There are some of you who got into the army because you were informed of the cause and what the war was all about, and seeing the great gain the war would bring to the Kingdom and to yourselves, you saw it in the best interest to join the bandwagon; There is the category that heard rumours of what the war was all about, the intricacies that the soldiers, from the soldiers themselves and also, regrettably so, from those that heard about the same. These entry behaviours into the force have made a lot of difference in the development of individual soldiers.
How can you run the race that is marked out for you if your style and speed of running is the same? You are like a group of athletes who are separated by a fence only that you can see the upper body of each other as you run. But there is one peculiarity however. Each of the courses is marked out specifically for the individual athlete that runs in and on it-Hebrews 12:1-2-“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” How then can you look unto Jesus when you are looking aside from the line of the mark? What goals then are you pressing on towards when you can easily be derailed by your fellow athletes who also like you were saved by grace?” Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? “-2Coronthinians 6:14. These words seem to have escaped your consciences completely, if you have read them at all. Soldiers in battle are supposed to keep themselves pure, to concentrate on the task at hand. But look at what you have done, tying yourselves to relationships that are unabounding in holiness and fruit. An example was given you of a man who understood the elements and intricacies of warfare, a man who stood by his word and soldiers code. “And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered. 8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king. 9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. 10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Comest thou not from thy journey? Why then didst thou not go down unto thine house? 11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah abides in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.”-2Samwel 11:7-11 . A true soldier this man was. What most of you get from this story if at all you read it is a cruel lustful King who would stop at nothing to fulfill his desires; but you forget a very important lesson right there. Never mix war with pleasure! Which is what most of you have done exactly. Then there is the danger of not going to the battlefield at all. “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.” A grave mistake indeed. A whole King who was designated to lead the nation decides to stay back for no obvious reason as the word does not mention any, and look what happens to the annointed of the Lord. Temptation led to sin. What followed thereafter has also plagued the army today.
Conflicts, wrangles and internal quarrels have swept troops like a flood and with all the disunity it brings with it you still invoke the word ,’ The Lord commands a blessing where there is unity’, very funny, right? If then there exists no unity among you, why call upon a curse that will inevitably come upon you? Because the Lord surely watches upon His word to fulfill it.
Another matter of concern is your artillery. The word is supposed to be your weapon and nothing else. You have adorned the wrong armour and those who try to use the right ones wear incomplete armour. “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”-Ephesians 6:14-18. Take ye the ‘whole armour’ doesn’t mean part of what you think will be sufficient to make you defeat the enemy; you have to take the whole armour. The breastplate of righteousness; How can you claim to take on the armour without a breastplate which is the basic component of an armour; of which breastplate is and must be righteousness, holiness, without which no man shall see God. The gospel of Peace, the Shield of Faith with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy-No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper, huh? Its because the darts, the weapons of the enemy are kept at bay by the shield of faith. The Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit which is the WORD of God. Without the word of God you cannot attack the enemy. Yes you might argue that you already will be protected from the darts but doesn’t the same word say, Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God alone. Soldiers, the word for you has become a rare partaking, you only read it when you have to. How then can you fight the enemy and utterly destroy him? You need ammunition, each time you empty the barrel you have to retreat to the armory and rearm yourself, with the word and nothing else. When the enemy is persistent, then it should be evident that you have not destroyed him just because you have not used the weapon availed to you. If at all power has been given you to trample upon scorpions and snakes and over all the power of the enemy then the enemy should be left standing after you are done with him. The word also is not a tool of defense but a mighty weapon that has been neglected by the very people it was meant for. The word is not meant for you to hide under it. Take it out to the enemy and smite him with it!
I would love to write and write about the flaws in the army of God my father; but you have a war to fight. “And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father by Him. I have called you friends, because I died for you and still do continuously intercede for you. Keep the fire burning as you await my coming which is very very soon.
