This world and those of us who live in it face seemingly ominous situations today. The economy, personal rights, and the fundamental morality of our nation and world appear to all be in jeopardy. As I try to take it all in, I am thankful for a place where we can abide in rest; a place of supernatural peace and shelter even in the midst of chaos.
Abiding in this place doesn’t just happen naturally. We must choose by faith to enter it. It is a process of learning to trust God completely….day by day…minute by minute. It means to completely rely on Him in the midst of any storm, no matter how dark.
There is an “effort” of faith on our part to get to and remain in that place when everything in the natural world looks and feels hopeless and uncertain. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1-2. Notice we have a choice of where we will dwell, but if we choose by faith to dwell in the shadow of the Most High, we WILL rest in His shadow. It doesn’t happen by default just because we are believers; it is a purposeful choice.
As we learn to put down our own self-reliance and lean on our loving, all-knowing Father, we enter a place of supernatural peace as He leads us beside still waters and quiets our souls like only He can…another beautiful privilege of being His children. We can enter this secret place anytime, anywhere... at work, school, in the car, or in the midst of complete chaos. We can abide there knowing we are covered by His protective, loving wings…in the very shadow of the Almighty Creator of the universe! Where else would we ever want to be?
