An Old Friend
An old friend showed up yesterday,
And I almost didn’t see,
Too busy looking for the ones,
Who said: “you can count on me.”
But when the day had ended,
That number was so few,
I could count them on my fingers.
Without removing either shoe.
But the Lord told me I’d miscounted,
Though I might have had the number right.
For an old friend showed up yesterday,
And they were a blessed sight.
Some drove for several hundred miles,
Some just across our town,
Came to say: "Congratulations,"
And for a moment hang around.
“Thanks Lord” you knew I needed them,
To warm my weary heart,
A smile, a hug, a hand shake,
Made me glad they were a part.
Should I ever feel like counting Lord,
Help me not forget each friend.
For they’re the ones I count on,
To go with me to the end.
And help me Lord to Thank You,
For those friends who mean so much.
And to show them just how special,
It is to have their touch.
