Gospel
Just as a very sick person casts himself at the mercy of a skillful physician even so a sinner who sees himself to be infected with the dreadful and deadly disease of sin casts all his care on Jesus Christ the great physician of human hearts.
Too often we tell men to receive Christ when they are not ready to receive Christ. At last the way is prepared but the people are not often ready. There must be a John the Baptist sent to them so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
John's work is like the work of the Holy Spirit who, when the law is preached, convicts men of sin and calls them to repentance. When we examine ourselves in the light of God's holy and righteous law we see all the sin and misery in our life and begin to cry out from this wilderness "Woe is me for I am a man of unclean lips." Isaiah 6:5
This world is a wilderness with no bread to nourish, nothing but stones to munch on, no water to quench just a heap of dry desert sand to choke on. This wilderness has no true water only a resemblance-a mirage that doesn't satisfy. Psalm 63:1
