Why did I leave and walk away
Thinking my way was best?
What looked good to me was in the end
The way to my heart's unrest
Little did I know the pit was deep
Emptiness hollowed my soul
Lonely in search for something to fill
Deep caverns so dark and so dull
No light could be seen in the darkest of pits
Only brokenness to be found
Shame held me tight, not letting go
A captive tied up and bound
In the distance a voice familiar to me
Spoke words showing how much He cares
"I miss you and want My best for you
Take my hand, and I'll lead you there."
It was all I could do within me
When I turned to find You there
I ran with abandon back to Your arms
Your embrace a feeling so rare
You held me and said, "Your forgiven,
You were lost, but now you've been found."
Those words were the healing I needed
Your mercy, warm oil flowing down
These ashes I leave in a pile
To be used as a lesson filled with pain
Thinking my way was better than Yours
Yet used to bring beauty, not shame
