Foreclosed House

I wrote this poem in March of 2010 while living and ministering in the inner city. Take a peak into my heart when I saw foreclosed houses for what they really are, when I saw the common foreclosure sign on one of my past kindergarten students' house.

Every foreclosed house I’ve seen until now
I’ve pretty much thought…
There’s another one

But when I saw you
It was different
Because

I wonder what your emptiness means
Where Ester went
What happened to her
And if she’s happier

Every foreclosed house I’ve seen until now
I’ve pretty much felt…
Someone should fix that place up and live there

But when I saw you
It was different
Because

I felt lonely seeing you there
With the sign saying keep out
You’re more than just a social problem
You’re a child I knew with a lease on life
