Jokes are often made about daughters-in-law, but I can truly say that when God blessed me with mine, He also blessed me with a friend. I recall my mother talking in such a loving way about her daughters-in –law, and I thought, she couldn’t possibly love them as much as her own daughters.
God has blessed me with two daughters whom I love dearly, but He has added a lovely daughter-in-law to my family. We express our feelings to each other without anger or resentment. She knows that she can burden me with her problems, because although I love my son he does have faults.
Next to God she was there for me when my world crumbled through divorce. Had it not been for them I would be a basket case. She listened when I know there were times she wanted to say, “Shut Up.” I shared feelings with her that my own children didn’t want to hear. We all need a sounding board, and she was mine.
In spite of all the jokes, I am grateful for God’s blessing on my son and me. My prayer is always that I can continue to be the kind of mother-in-law that my daughter-in-law enjoys being around. May we always remain friends.
