As we step on the edge of a new year, I am reminded of the words “Life is a matter of interpretation”. 2013 can either be your best year so far or another frustrating 12 months. You can either recognize the opportunities in the new year or complain about what is not working as the days go by.
The secret of a fulfilling year is found in the words of our Maker in Isaiah 43:18-19-”Forget about what's happened; don't keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I'm about to do something brand-new. It's bursting out! Don't you see it? There it is! I'm making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.”
In other words, when we focus on our past failures, we lose sight of the opportunities to succeed in the present. In a similar vein, when we build a monument around today's achievement, we have the tendency to be complacent towards tomorrow's accomplishments. No wonder someone said “Success is a journey, not a destination.”
Whether 2012 was full of success stories or painful experiences, let it go. The new year gives us the opportunity for a fresh start. Don't allow the frustration of yesterday reduce your expectations for today. Your previous accomplishments should not put a lid on your present aspirations. Don't give up on the dreams you are yet to achieve. You can still get that dream job. You can still win the heart of that lady you can't stop thinking of. The question is “Are you ready to live in what could be your best year so far?”
Forget the past. Embrace today. The future is beautiful. Lest I forget “Happy New Year.”
