The first Christmas
In a divine place in the house of bread
No extravagant crib in sight
Just a manger full of hay.
The first Christmas
No fanciful Christmas lights in tow
But the six-pointed Nativity Star shines above
Taking over any other light.
The first Christmas
No carol singing in the distance
But angels sing in exultation from above
Heaven’s choir lands down on earth.
The first Christmas
No wrappings under any Christmas tree
But three wise men of Orient
Lay the greatest gifts before the king.
The first Christmas
No Santa Claus comes jingling along
But shepherds hasten to rejoice
Behold the King of salvation before their eyes.
The first Christmas
No flying reindeer leads the sleigh
But humble sheep and cow
Graze around the new born king.
The first Christmas
No children shouting in the snow
But the tender cries of the Infant Child
Pierces through the night air.
The first Christmas
No stockings filled with goodies
Only swaddling clothes which little protect
The shivering babe against the biting cold.
The first Christmas
No warm fireplace with decorated mantel
No snowman keeps guard outside
But God looks down tenderly at His beloved Son.
The first Christmas
The birthday of our Lord Jesus.
His presence then into the world
His re-birth today right into our hearts.
