There are rough seas and strong winds blowing in our world today! There are rumors rampant that warlike people are subverting America for the purpose of taking over the country, that secret forces are at work in nefarious ways and in innocent-looking places operating against us. How then should those of us who believe with our very lives that God fashioned the world and all that’s in it, react if that indeed be true?
Is this making us afraid and curtailing our ability to live faithful, peaceful lives, loving God and each other, calmly believing that we rest in the Hands of the Creator of the universe? If so, let’s remember that little boat in which Jesus slept peacefully even though the winds and waves threatened, and the disciples were scared out of their minds. Did they really think that physical forces could take the life of the Son of God? Not if they had faith the size of a grain of mustard seed! Aye, and there’s the rub! When they woke Him, He said, “Why did you doubt, O you of little faith?” Didn’t they know Who He was? Do we know Who He is? If we do, can’t we be assured that all will be well in our storm-rocked little boats on life’s tempestuous sea? That we can live faithfully and peacefully as long as life lasts is clearly taught in Scripture. Do we really believe that?
Our little boats may rock in a tumultuous world, but so long as the Master is aboard, there will never be winds and waves strong enough to destroy those who walk by faith and not by sight. Faith was the answer then, and it still is. It is safe for us to live loving, faithful lives in a world rocked by winds and waves of doubt and fear. The Master of the Universe is still in control. Don’t be afraid to love, not hate, to pray fervently, to live serenely, resting in the Lord’s hands. “Peace, be still!” echoes down through the corridors of time clear to eternity. Count on it, my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.
