"Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes all of you be submissive to one another, and be 'clothed' with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5 NIV
There are many Christian virtues that Christ would have us develop for our own benefit. But we live in a sinful world and even our own flesh is against us. It is difficult to live a godly life.
One day my wife, Becca, came to me all excited and on fire for the Lord. That morning she had watched a helpful Bible Lesson on television. She told me that for the entire day it had been much easier for her to live within the virtues of Christ. Much of it was because of what was contained in the lesson. But there was also the fact that God came first in the morning. She spends the early part of each day with the Lord. That is of profound importance if we are to be victorious.
In the study, the teacher had said we should think about each Christian virtue individually. And then one at a time, "put it on" as if it were a piece of clothing. We do this every day with; Humility, Gentleness, Kindness, Peace, Love, Wisdom, a Servant's Heart and so on. The mental picture of draping herself with each of these helped my wife to display those good character traits of our Lord.
The more time we spend with someone the better we get to know them. The better we get to know Jesus, the greater our longing to be like Him will become. Have a wonderful day in Christ.
"...And to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." NIV Ephesians 4:24
