The Unlikely Yokefellow

As I read Matthew 2 afresh I am struck by how King Herod was an inadvertent facilitator in the wise men's worship of the Christ child. The wicked Herod who would murder a generation to get at one strategic individual who posed a threat to him, actually summoned the research that sent the magi on their way to Bethlehem, and Herod was responsible when they later returned to their respective nations and their people, when multitudes would learn of the coming of the prophesied Messiah, the One born King of the Jews. What unlikely yokefellows God often uses in the outworking of his holy purposes! That is what provoked George Whitefield to comment that the Lord often plows with the Devil's heifers. One way or another though, it is His field that will be plowed.
