I heard someone say recently that our spirits never sleep. It makes sense in that God who is Spirit never slumbers or sleeps the psalmist tells us in Psalm 121 verses 3 and 4. Architects have a saying too that the arch never sleeps. If it ever quit its work of support the structure above would collapse. Then too the spirit, which communes with God, can be thought of as a kind of invisible arch that supports and sustains body and soul. It does its work or plays its role throughout the night or throughout the period of sleep, receiving from God what is needful in those moments, especially as we seek and are expectant of that. I like the idea that problems can be being solved or resolved without our conscious involvement, because, frankly, we as souls (thought, will, emotion) often get in the way, being part of the problem. Our spirits are closer, anyway, to who (and Whose) we really are. Not that I am against conscious efforts. In fact, if we are in a blood covenant (pact) with God through Christ's consummate sacrifice, we are bound to have imPACT through those efforts.
