Today we honor the men and women who died at Pearl Harbor during the unprovoked sneak attack by the Empire of Japan. Although the event happened seventy-one years ago and most of us weren’t even alive then, it is important that we remember the event. Freedom requires constant vigilance, and the events at Pearl Harbor offer a prime example of what can happen when our nation is not ready.
I hope all will join me in this prayer for those killed in the attack and for all Americans who have given their lives for our great nation:
Dear Lord, Today we pray for the souls of the brave Americans who were suddenly killed during the brutal attack on Pearl Harbor. Most of them were very young, just reaching their prime, when the gift of life was taken from them. We also pray that their memory lives on in our hearts and that all of their remaining loved ones know that we honor these fine men and women.
We also pray for all of the other service members killed in the Great World War II, both in the Pacific and Atlantic theatres, and also those killed in all other wars.
America was made great by the sacrifice of so many for the cause of freedom and justice, and may we always remember the sacrifice which they so humbly made to defend all of us.
May Thy grace give them peace and may Thy wisdom give each of us the courage and determination to do what we must to retain the gift of freedom and the richness of America. Make us worthy of Thee and Thy blessings, and help us to always be a God-fearing nation dedicated to Thee.
We ask in the name of Thy Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
