As children growing up we all were are taught that it is wrong to judge people based on their looks. Body-type, race, hairstyle, none of these things indicate the value of a person. So why does the world judge a person solely on these traits ? You see, the media has somehow managed to promote the untruth of this. However, the scripture facts do not warrant this hype.
It's not our good looks. It's not our abilities. It's not our standing in the community. It's not even our money, that makes a child of God successful in life. Regardless of what your family, loved ones or friends sees in you, the most important trait is your personal relationship with the living God, through His Son Christ Jesus. Galatians 6: 7-10 )
Perhaps since human beings are incapable of looking into someone's heart first, it's only natural to focus on the outward appearance. ( 1 Samuel 16:7 ) Humans seem to have a propensity to look at outward appearances, perhaps due to our fallen nature. ( Genesis 3:1-7 )
But is it wrong to judge, based on ones outward appearance only ? Is this only one side of the story? The outward appearances and behaviors don't show what is driving and motivating the person inside. However, if you are dedicated to God's commands and promises, God's love will show through you.( Matt 5:13-14 )
Jesus is giving a profound truth here. The pronouns in verses 13-14 are emphatic: "YOU only are the salt. YOU only are the light. Jesus is affirming here, that in spite of what others may think of us, we need to stand for Christ.. In other words, in the church age, we are the only helpers God has here on earth. Acts 1:8 ) We must get His gospel out before it's too late.( Matt 20:6 ) ( Romans 10:15 )
Basically, how do we spread the true "full gospel" ? ( 1 Cor 15:3-4 ) By being straightforward in telling others about Jesus. Just tell them what He has done for you. ( Galatians 3:24 ) ( John 3:16-17 ) ( Romans 5:8 )
Merely, spread the gospel, by how you live. Remember the old cliché', "You are the only Bible some people read". Well, that's certainly true. We are the only Bible, the majority of the unsaved population will ever read. ( Isaiah 61:1 ) In other words, we must have a positive testimony, of what God has done for us. ( 1 Cor 2:13 ) ( Ephesians 2:1-10 ) ( Ephesians 3:17-19 )
If you are true to God's word ( Hebrews 4:12 ) and true in your prayers, ( Colossians 1:9-10 ) ( Philippians 4:6 ) God will work in and through you, ( John 8:32 ) to accomplish His will. That is to have others become "saved" through you testimony. ( Matt 9:37-38 ) Romans 10:1 )
Yes, others may not see you, as God sees you. And they may not see you for what you really are in Christ. Just don't be disappointed, regardless of how you may feel. ( Galatians 6:9 ) Just stay away from those "worldly mirrors" by getting into God's Holy Word. ( Isaiah 40:8)
For your Heaven Father has promised you He will work all things for your good. ( 1 Cor 15:57-58 )
Remember, whether you are "saved' or "lost" everyone is just a heartbeat away from eternity. ( James 4:14 ) So, does it really matter what others may think about you. They can't see your heart. Thus, they can't know your heart, as well. ( Proverbs 4:23 ) ( Proverbs 14:30 )
Do you have a "witnessing heart" ? Do you center on the "longings" of your heart to have God's sweet spirit to dwell within you ? Just scan God's word and you will see that it's filled with this trait. One such example is " King David's writings. ( Psalm 27:4-8 ) ( Psalm 42: 1-2 ) Psalm 57: 8-10 ) ( Psalm 62: 5-8 ) Psalm 63: 1-8 ) And on and on they go, just research the scripture.
AUTHOR'S POST NOTE
I can't help but ponder the fond memories of those old "brush-arbor" revival meetings where the "Amen's" and the "Hallelujah's" echoed, as the spirit led. I still remember those strong, but simple, evangelistic teachings. Additionally, in support of those evangelistic messages, was our old fashioned church altar. I still believe in that "Old Time Religion". I pray now, since retiring from my secular profession, that God will hide me behind the cross and use this compilation to give encouragement and strength to the Christians as well as draw the sinners into a saving knowledge of Christ Jesus.
