"LOVE THE PEOPLE GOD GAVE YOU, BECAUSE HE WILL NEED THEM BACK ONE DAY"
This holiday season has been special for me. Not only am I healthy enough to cook the food but I get to host the holiday meal. We are celebrating Thanksgiving and Xmas together since my snowbird parents need to escape the Colorado winter and drive to their Arizona home. Two years ago, I was so sick I could not clean out my fridge and cooking was impossible.
My parents came and stayed with me for four days this November. I adore my parents. They are one of the greatest blessing my God has given me.
My mother is frail and her memory is not very sharp but her love is deep.
She brought her sewing machine and made me an apron. I don’t wear aprons but I let her make one for me because it made her happy and gave me a memory. I will wear it. I will think of her every time I do.
She is always cold and I am always hot. I walk around my own house in a t-shirt when she visits and she is in wool slacks, a wool sweater and a wool jacket. She also can’t sleep in my bed. She says it is too soft but it really is a firm mattress. My dad agrees. So, I set her up on my sofa with: a wool blanket, and electric blanket, and a quilt. I tuck her in and kiss her forehead and say, as she once told me….”Don’t let the bed bugs bite.”
I was sad to see them go home but I made the most of their visit. I walked my dog with my Pop, we went to a movie w/my son, and we visited my sister and nephews. They are now back in AZ enjoying the warmth over Xmas.
Treasure the time you have with your family and friends. Don’t hold grudges, forgive, and say “I love you” often. You never know if they will be with you tomorrow. My brother died in a mountain climbing accident and I almost died from a brain tumor. Appreciate the time you have with the people you love. Don’t take it for granted. My sister and I have had our disagreements but It is better to lay aside the hurt and focus on the love and bond of family
EXODUS 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
