Hungry eyes look up, pleadingly
Eyes that once were filled with joy
Are now lined with sorrow and pain
The question asked by these innocent eyes
Is heartbreaking and clear:
Will you be bringing me something to eat today?
If our eyes are the windows to our souls
Why are so many coldly closed off
To the plight that surrounds us
The bountiful blessings and richness of life
That has so freely been placed in our hands
Has become an afterthought to many
"Please sir, may I have some more?"
Is the common refrain
In these days of excess and materialism
A pervading theme lingers in the air
Out of sight, out of mind
If I do not see the suffering
How do I know that it's out there?
The little that I may have
Cannot possibly make any difference
It would be a drop in the bucket
An insignificent amount
In the grand scheme of things
We may not have the power ourselves
To take five loaves of bread
And a few small fish
To feed the multitudes
But I know someone
Who would be perfect for the job!
The task at hand may seem unreachable
But we can do everything through Him who gives us strength
