Psalms 46 verses 10-11 (NLT) 10 "Be silent, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." 11 The LORD Almighty is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
The world we live in seems to be filled with noise. Cars driving down the road, televisions on, even our own minds seem to be cluttered with thoughts. This all seems to get louder every time you start to pray. If you have family or others around this seems to get worse. Not only is the noise louder but everything they need has just become the most important part of their lives and you are the only person that can take care of whatever it is. Even our own prayers come with thoughts trying to make sure we have prayed for others and ourselves making sure not to leave anything out. I have tried to find a solution to this problem for a long time with little success. I am going to share with you what happened to me that changed my life and I practice a couple times a week.
Early this morning I woke up, not like you normally would, just turned and was awake. The TV was on, I sat up to turn the TV off and I heard someone say sit in silence and know that I am. I shut the TV off and laid back down trying to go back to sleep. What I thought was just the words from the movie that was on, I soon found out it was not. As I laid there I began to pray, this helps me to go back to sleep because it releases my mind and gives me peace, but this time it was different, I heard the words again, sit in silence and know that I am. I sat up on the side of my bed and began to listen. There was noise around me, the dogs were snoring, the wind was blowing and the chimes were ringing, but still I cleared my mind and sat silently waiting. As I sat there I began to feel a tingling in my stomach that kept getting stronger. All the noise that was around me began to disappear, and things became silent. My eyes were closed and the colors that I normally see as purple and blue turned to ribbons of gold and it grew until all I saw was gold. I felt as if my head had laid up against something and my shoulders were being touched. The pain that I was feeling in my shoulders instantly went away and I began to feel a numbing over my entire body. I began to hear a rumbling, light at first and then louder as like continuous thunder rolling. At that moment I knew I was in the presence of our Lord. My Spirit began to commune with my Father and I sat in complete peace for what seemed like only a moment. As the rumbling started to fade, I said Lord please don’t leave me, and He said, “I have never left you and will always be with you”. I wanted to stay in his presence forever. The noise starting returning in the room and I looked at the clock, what seemed like a moment was over an hour. My spirit then revealed to me that my prayers have already been answered and set in motion. I know now that He wants us to come to him in prayer, but just as important as prayer, there is a need to sit in silence and know that he is.
Look at what is going on in your life, always go to the Lord in prayer. Find time to sit in silence and just enjoy the love and peace that He so freely wants to give to us.
