Don’t be confused:
(2 peter 3:1-14)

Why do seemingly such intelligent people believe in such things as evolution when it has been so thoroughly proven to be false. Why is there so many false teachings in our world today and any mention of Christ or the idea of one God who created the universe is being removed from every part of our society. The answer is simple according to the Bible. Don’t be confused by the rhetoric and falsehoods espoused by those who wish to remove Christ from every part of our lives.

2 Peter 3:1-4 says “This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you: in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Why do people find it so hard to believe in one true God; a Creator of the universe? They can’t bring themselves to believe in one Creator, for then they would have to stand before Him someday giving an account of what they’ve done or what they have believed. It is a form of self-worship. They believe in their own mortal wisdom to explain the universe and the world they live in. It is rebellion. Man, by his own nature, does not want to take responsibility for himself. This is nothing new. The apostle was dealing with these false teachers and scoffers in the early church. Don’t be deceived and don’t be confused by their arguments. Many will come saying there is no God and denying the authority of Christ.

We need not be confused. We no longer live in a society where Bible-believing Christians are the moral majority. As of this recent election, those days are gone. Here is the truth. We now live in a society where the following is true:

--Our kids go to a school where any mention of Christ or God is not allowed. They are being taught there is no God in control of our universe.

--Our government is now run by a party that has removed any mention of Christ or God in its platform. When they saw that this would be a problem, they sought a 2/3 vote to hurriedly put His name back in. It was obviously voted down, but was put in at the last hour anyway to a chorus of boos by its constituents.

--We have a president who has promised the Palestinians that he will give them Jeruselem if elected and who refused to recognize Jeruselem as the capital city of Israel.
--We have a president who has promised Russia that he will undo all the advancements made by President Ronald Reagan in bringing down the walls and bringing Russia to its knees; making it possible for Russia to be a world power again.

--We have a government that no longer protects Christians across the globe or the representatives of our country.

--We live in a country that now wants to remove any mention of Christ or God in the holiday called “Christmas” when Christians choose to celebrate the birth of their savior.

--We have a president that has voted for or supported the removal of Christian values from our laws 57 times in four years.

This sounds hopeless and many Christians are saddened by these events. We need not be without hope. My hope has never been in the schools. It has never been in the government. My hope is in Christ! He has never let me down. He is still on His throne. He is still in control. The Bible tells me that Christ is in Heaven and that it is His job to hold the stars and the Heavens in place until the time of His coming. All may seem lost and out-of-control. It is not! God has a plan and a purpose for us and for our world. The Heavens and the Earth as we know it will all pass away as we know it. God will then replace them with a new Heaven and a new Earth. All made perfect by Him. Don’t be confused and don’t be disheartened by current events.

2 Peter 3:5-10 says “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fore against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that ny should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in then which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

We have a choice here. We can lose hope and give up, we can be quiet and do nothing, or we can get on our knees and pray for a Revival of His spirit to come upon us first and then our country. Revival must first take place within His church. Christians should first fall on their knees crying out to God in repentance. Crying out for forgiveness and crying out hastening His return. Then we need to rise up from our knees and spread His good news of love and forgiveness to all that will listen. We need to pray that God will stir the hearts of Christians everywhere to return to loving God with all their souls, all their minds, and with all their strength. The Bible says in the last days there will be an upheaval of His spirit. The Bible here tells us to pray hastening this event and His coming.
2 Peter 3:11-14 says “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hastening unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

I have heard a lot of talk lately by Christians thanking god for each new day and for His boundless mercies. I too thank Him and praise Him for His faithfulness. The Bible tells us here that we should be looking for His coming and preparing for it; not looking at each day as if wishing for life to continue as they have always been. Our world is changing. We no longer can afford to go along with our comfortable Christian existence with the majority believing as we do. The majority now wants Christ out of every part of our country. We need to stop wishing for days of old and start looking up for His return. Our comfortable Christian lives are passing away just as God promised the Heavens and the Earth will do.

We as Christians need to get on our knees and pray for Revival; first in His church and in each of us and then for our country. That includes our government, our president, and even the enemy that wishes to destroy us for our belief in Christ. We are not without Hope. We are not without His love. We are not without His peace. They are all still there. But we as Christians need to stop living like the war against Christ in our country does not exist. The war is not in a foreign land. It is right in your own home town. The enemy is rising up to take Christ out of every part of this world. But God is still in control. Don’t be confused!

It’s You
When struggles come
And times are rough.
When all I have
Is never quite enough.
Everything points to You.

When all is gone
And the friends are few.
When all that I try
Leads me nowhere and soon.
Everything points to You.

When grieving time comes
For my failures in the Sun.
When the new song I’ve sung
Fails to reach even one.
Everything Points to You.

When I look up from the ground.
It’s You!
Who’s there when I need to be found.
It’s You!
Who’s grace is so sweet in sound.

Everything points to you.
Only You.
Only You can I hold on to.
Only You remained so true.
Only You can make me new.
