Almost

A jealous sun peeking from a gray cloud,
I almost sense some joy in me.
Burning yellow, brightest blessing so loud
wanting to break me free.

For too long I cried each day
wanting things that could never be.
I've sought the Heart as I prayed
there is the good that I should see.

Nervous feet to seek Your will;
how can I go this alone.
Then I remembered when I was still
this is the path to Your home.

Almost gone, almost here;
almost happy and ready to give.
You're the only reason to have cheer;
only the Way that I could live.

But then it's You that gives me life,
that I could dare to praise Your name.
You are the Friend who stays beside;
before You I have no shame.

Almost in shadows, almost in light;
almost dead embers, or supernova.
I'm almost joy, burning so bright;
having the Hope I know it's not over.

Each burning day begins with an ache;
I'm brought down before Your throne.
Then I remember in my state,
each burning day takes me almost home.
