This is a transcribed version of the Sunday school that I taught in my work place.
Texts: 1 Sam 12:1-5; 2 Cor 13:5-8
INTRODUCTION: Accountability is one of the core values in the society and in the kingdom of God. This is why we have been discussing this theme since the past five days. Accountability is a life-long situation whereby a man, woman, boy or girl takes responsibility for his/her actions and is ready to give reasons for his/her actions. It is a situation whereby an individual is made to give a vivid account of how he/she spent the resources, opportunities and time given to him/her. God expects us to examine ourselves to see whether we are holding on to our faith or not, daily so that we would be blameless at His second coming. As we study further, may we receive understanding.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
1. What are the attributes of men and women that are accountable?(1 Sam 12:3,2 Cor 4:2, 2 Cor 13:7; CEV)
*They do not take what does not belong to them.
*They do not force people to give them things.
*They do not find pleasure in hurting people.
*They do not take bribe to give an unfair decision.
*They are open to correction and criticisms.
*They are faithful to those who employed them.
*They don’t do shameful things that must be kept secret.
*They do things right and make restitutions if need be.
2. What are the instruments for examining ourselves?
*The Word of God (Psa 19:7-11, Pro 6:23-24, 2 Cor 13:5)
*People around us (1 Sam 12:3).
*God Himself(Psa 139:23-24)
3. How often should we examine ourselves and why?
*Daily, every minute and seconds
*There is a day for judgement whose date is unknown (Acts 17:31)
*To maintain a clearer conscience before God and man (1Pt 3:13-17)
4. Biblical examples of those that are accountable.
* Prophet Samuel (1 Sam 12:3-4)
*Our Lord Jesus(John 14:30-31,KJV)
*Apostle Paul (2 Cor 4:1-3)
CONCLUSION: We cannot live a life of accountability without first of all examining ourselves to see if we are still in the faith. The Christian faith is a call to watchfulness. And the price of watchfulness is eternal diligence. We must be careful to watch our thoughts, actions and utterances in our places of work and above all be conscious of the fact that God’s judgement is imminent.
