What can we believe God for? What do we mean by believe? What is Faith and Faithfulness? Many questions arise in our lives as we walk this walk of faith. We don’t see God but we believe that He is.
In my life I know that there has always been a presence with me that I could not see physically. I always knew that there was something different about me even as a child. I was always shunned by other children. They didn’t like me and teased me all the time. As a child I was shot in my left eye with a bow arrow. In that time there was no surgery that could correct the direction that my eye went in. I was called Clarence the cross-eyed lion that could not see. At the aftermath of that I would fight, beating up whosoever it was that teased me. I didn’t stop fighting in elementary school or junior high school, but it was in high school. I went to high school three years and graduated out of eleventh grade. This was the proudest moment in my life; yet it was almost taken away from me.
When faced with difficult situations I found that I would always cry to God. As a child my grandmother taught me to love God and trust Him for all things. She was a woman of faith. She knew and believed things that I see come to pass in this present time. She would tell me things at eight, nine, and ten years old that I have lived to see now at fifty five. I realize that the gift of God that has been working in me since I was a child still works today. That gift is the gift of faith; faith with some substance to it. I mean this gift is one that will cause you to hold on to what God has said even when it seems like it will not come to pass. The gift of faith takes you back to what He has first said time and time again when it looks like hell has won. It brings you back to now faith which is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen; Hebrews 11:1.The Devil will never win against God in our lifetime or beyond because he is already a defeated foe. When my grandmother was dying she directed me back to God by saying “I want you to always remember that God will always make a way for you”. It was so personal.
What is faith? Faith is the belief, confidence, or trust we have in some person or thing. Jesus used the words faith and belief interchangeably: be ye not faithless, but believing. Believe means to trust, accept, or think. We are to believe God at his Word. People have beliefs; which are their opinion, feeling, or conviction but God sent the Word that we may believe that what it says is true. Faith is acquired when one hears the Word for it must first be heard and accepted. When one accepts that the Word of God is true it will bring about a conversion in their lives. As they grow to know the Word they then adhere to it making it come alive in their lives.
