WHY SHOULD YOU DEAL WITH IT? 8
Sin brought strife in David’s family. It started with Amnon lusting after his half-sister until he finally raped her. It continued with Absalom taking revenge by killing Amnon for violating his sister. Absalom sent himself on exile for about 3 years. Through the intervention of the one of the King’s men, Absalom eventually returned to Jerusalem. Although he was accepted back into Jerusalem, things would never be the same between father and son.
Absalom subtly stole the hearts of the Israelites until he finally stole the throne. David had to leave the throne, 2 Samuel 15:1-15. David was robbed of his ministry as the King of Israel. It all started when he couldn’t keep his eyes off Bathsheba. John C. Maxwell wrote a book titled “Talent Is Not Enough”. Our gifts can only keep us in ministry for so long. If we fail to resolve the issues in our lives, they will cause cracks on the foundation of our ministry. Sooner or later, those issues will cost us our assignment.
I once watched the account of a prominent pastor who was caught in a sex scandal. After being relieved of his position in the Church, he is now an Insurance salesman. As a result of not dealing with the thoughts of being sexually attracted to other men, he lost his ministry. The good news is that our God is a God of second chances. He can make all things new for you. You might have failed, don’t buy the lie that God is through with you. He is ready to put you back together. He is ready to use you to show the world how loving and powerful He is. Let Him.
