The difficult cases in our lives, the ones over which we lament the most and agonize, and even weep, are they not intended after all for the changes they can bring in us more than for the changes we wish and hope to see in them over time. They are like thorns in our flesh we want removed but instead we hear the familiar words, "My grace is sufficient for you. My strength is made perfect in this weakness (situation) of yours." It's not primarily about the other person or people involved, it's about us, the lamenters. It is also reminiscent of Psalm 126 saying "those who sow in tears will reap in joy." The tears provide the water that all sown seeds need. Only in this case it is a costly water coming from within our very souls and bodies. The ones who continually go forth weeping, bearing precious seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing their sheaves with them!
