Do you, as a follower of our Lord, ever feel like you are getting "brain washed" ? I certainly do.
Since retiring from my secular profession, I now have the time to be "brain washed" by our local TV adds. Eat this cereal and you will be 10 pounds lighter. This make-up will automatically enter you in the "miss America' contest. This hammer will instantly turn you into the best "handy- man" around. This new formula will automatically turn your old "clunker" into a shiny new limousine. And the list goes on-an-on.
I know these remakes are strictly secular in nature. But , in reality, don't we Christians often times get brain-washed into the same parallel circumstances, as far as the gospel is concerned.
We don't want to go the church prayer meeting, as the service has very little prayer involved. We skip the Sunday morning service, because we stayed up to late watching our favorite TV sports show. We don't get involved in the church visitation program, as no one ever answers the door bell anymore. And this list goes on-an-on, if we let it.
And I would mention those long preaching sermons. However, I am reminded of what Jesus told His disciples, when they went to sleep on Him in the Garden, as Jesus was praying just before His death. ( Matthew 26:36-46 )
The scriptures dictate that we fellow believers should never get caught up in the affairs of this world.( Romans 12:2 ) ( 1 Peter 1:14) In other words, we should never become so well-adjusted to today's social misconceptions, that we just automatically fit in. (Ecclesiastes 5:13 )( Proverbs 14:30 ) ( Proverbs 17:1 ) ( Galatians 5:17 ) (Colossians 1:27 ) ( 1 John 4:4 )
For once we are saved, we are no longer citizens of this world.( Philippians 3:20 ) ( Ephesians 1:13 ) However, in reality, since we are still on this planet, we have a chance to make a difference in this sinful world. ( Ephesians 6:12 ) ( Ephesians 6 ) ( Ephesians 6: 19 )
This difference is 1) living a good example of the Christian faith and 2) witnessing, to the unsaved, in holy boldness. ( Romans 8:31 ) ( 2 Timothy 1:7 ) ( Jeremiah 29:11 ) ( Colossians 4:5-6 )
So, how then do we transfer the thoughts of our mind, in today's society ? Simply put, we need mimic our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. ( Philippians 2:5 )
And this concept, of having an attitude liking to Christ, merits additional discussion, for it is the crutch of ( Romans 12:2 )
Having the mind of Christ means we share His philosophy of the scriptures such as sharing in His plans for salvation and a Holy living, ( 1 Cor 2:16 ) ( Isaiah 40:13 ) When these plans are realized, then, and only then, will we understand God's plans for the world, in bring glory to His name. ( Luke 19:10 ) ( Philippians 2:5-8 ) ( Matthew 9:36 ) ( Luke 5:16)
Remember that old hymn, " Down At The cross". Well, here's a reminder.
Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my sin was the blood applied;
Glory to His name!
• Glory to His name,
• Glory to His name
• There to my sin was the blood applied
• Glory to His name!
So, with God's help, we who claim the name of Christ, can go from "being confirmed to this world " to being " transformed to God's principles". It's easy, just pray that God will send your comforter, the Holy Spirit, to work in your life. By teaching you right from wrong. ( John 14:26 ) By proving God's plans. (John 15:26 ) By reproving the sin in your life. ( John 16:8-11 ) And by not loving the things of the world. ( 1 John 2:15 ) 1 John 3:1-13 ) Convicting us of the sin. ( John 8:9 ) (Romans 2:15 ) ( Romans 9:1 ) ( 1 Timothy 4:2 )
