Judas, the unfaithful disciple, who betrayed the Lord for a few pieces of silver, he cries, "Hail, Master!" and kisses Jesus on the cheek….A sign to His would-be captors and eventual killers.
Matt. 26:1-35, 36-75; Mark 14:32-72; Luke 22:39-71; John 18:1-27
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Judas Iscariot, worked for and walked with the Master, He was one of the famous and ‘FAVOURED’ twelve, he saw wonders, heard the master preach and saw Him heal yet he could stoop so low and be so easily tempted to deny HIM!
What happened? Could this happen to any of us? Christians, born-again and sanctified …I mean
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.-1 Corinthians 10
How is this possible? A question really for brothers and sisters who believe a Christian who takes the first step to declare for Christ and become born-again can never be possessed of demons and is AUTOMATICALLY set free from ancestral covenants and curses…..Moses, fervent and passionate worked zealously for God to the point that he got angry and personally declared and executed judgment on His behalf- Exodus 19:3,20:5-6 (powers of his father’s house never let him be, apparently he needed to do something about these in his work and walk!)
Judas Betrays Jesus, and Peter Denies Him
HE WHO THINKS HE STANDS SHOULD TAKE HEED LEST HE FALLS.
1 Corinthians 10 …… 10 neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
1 Corinthians 8:2 And if any man think that he knows any thing, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 28:14 Happy is the man that fears always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.
Matthew 26:33, 34, 40, 41 Peter answered and said to him, though all men shall be offended because of you, yet will I never be offended...
Judas Iscariot and Simon Peter, sat at the feet of Jesus Christ, were taught and went around with Him forsaking ALL
Judas heard many sermons I presume, he was walking with and working for the master but an innate character/habit/hidden disposition that was never taken care of, that he did not pay attention to WHEN HE DECIDED TO EMBARK on the journey called JESUS, this made him slip and what a very slippery SLIP-UP that was ……!
Peter made unending promises that he could never deny the Lord but when it came to brass tacks…..…ugh, you know the rest of the story.
We need the Holy spirit as guard and His guidance always in this work and walk- it is not by power nor by might but by the spirit of God because in this world so wicked(Jeremiah 17:9), the devil and his demons are not asleep for a minuscule of a second!
The Hymn below sums up all we need, to ward off the Judas weakness monster when it rears its ugly head,pack-up always in the CHRISTIAN SURVIVAL KIT!
" O Jesus I have promised
O Jesus, I have promised
to serve thee to the end;
be thou forever near me,
my Master and my friend.
I shall not fear the battle
if thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway
if thou wilt be my guide.
2. O let me feel thee near me!
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
the tempting sounds I hear;
my foes are ever near me,
around me and within;
but Jesus, draw thou nearer,
and shield my soul from sin.
3. O let me hear thee speaking
in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion,
the murmurs of self-will.
O speak to reassure me,
to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen,
thou guardian of my soul.
4. O Jesus, thou hast promised
to all who follow thee
that where thou art in glory
there shall thy servant be.
And Jesus, I have promised
to serve thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow,
my Master and my Friend.
5) O let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own:
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
O guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then in heaven receive me,
My Saviour and my Friend.
