Sunday 11-4-12 Pastor Michael sermon=Outnumbered by Frenemies:Overcoming Deep Betrayal Psalm 3:1-8
=========================================================================================================================================

A Fr-enemy or frenemies are people who are friendly to you because they get benefits from it. They receive benefits from being your friend but they really hate you! Most of us think our biggest issues are with our enemies. This is not true. Betrayal happens thru frememies who smile in your face and all the time want to take your place! Backstabbers! They want to be you but will settle for being around you. As soon as they have the opportunity to bring you down, they will!

Don’t be jealous of people who are blessed and in good places. We should celebrate our neighbor being blessed because we will be next! God is in our neighborhood and He is taking us ALL up. God is no respecter of persons. What he has does for one he will do for another!

A frenemy stops being your friend as soon as you lose your job, your house, your money. Stop being upset when they leave because they never were your real friend anyway. Most of us have associates and not real friends. This is because friends will stick by you thru bad times. We need the discernment to see who is our friend. A real friend will come get you at 3:00 am when your car breaks down. An associate will ask if you called Triple A! We need to be discerning enough to know the difference between a friend and a frenemy.

In the scriptures, Davis is dealing with his son Absalom who is trying to kill him. David was a permissive parent who treated his children like friends. Now David is under attack and has been betrayed by his son. David is devastated because he is in a big mess. Absalom took over David’s kingdom by lying to the people about David. Nothing hurts more than when your own flesh and blood betrays you!

People will praise you when you are on the same level as them. Once God elevates you and blesses you above them, then they have a hard time and hate on you. Tell them don’t hate on me! It is God who elevated me! God didn’t elevate you because look at you hating on me for the blessing God has given me! Frememies will say “ who does he or she think she is?” They will say “ I remember him when he had nothing and now he thinks hes all that and a bag of chips”. Frememies are like crabs in a bucket. When one crab starts to climb out of the bucket, instead of the others following him, they pull him back down!

****How David Learned to Overcome****

1) Conflict is necessary to Overcome: The conflict happens so we can see who is for us and who is against us. We see the motives of people’s heart. Conflict reveals the message that is in their head. All Absalom wanted was to be king. He thought being “cute” was enough for that-to be king. “Cute” never pays my bills! “Cute” never got a car! “Cute” never gets a job! Stop chasing after the “cute” brothers and take an ugly King Kong looking brother that has a job! He will suddenly start looking real good when he can go to the grocery store and get you some food!

Pretty boys don’t bring in the money! Absalom was handsome and knew he was handsome and thought this was enough. He hadn’t been thru nothing like David did. David had a resume! David started by taking care of stinky sheep! He stayed faithful and stayed in position. He didn’t move and God made him King! Don’t move from the position that God has put us in. Tell the devil to get out of your face! You are going to go to battle to do what God has given you to do! Stay in position! Stay in position where God has put us!

2) David cried unto the Lord: It was a loud wailing cry to God. Screaming to God for him to hear us.! Some of us act too “cute” and need to shout to God. We need to get his attention. Being “cute” doesn’t do it! Shout to God! God is listening to our distinct cry. He knows our cry. God listens and knows our distinct cry. Cry to the Lord! God hears our humble cry! God repositioned David back to his throne after Absalom was killed.

Frenemies are necessary to get us up to our next level. David wouldn’t have made it to king if there had not been a Goliath giant. Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss so that Jesus would go to the cross, be resurrected and go back up to Heaven. We should thank God for our betrayers and our haters. They will help elevate us and they can also be our stepping stones to that elevation! Haters serve a purpose. They keep us on our knees praying. Let God use them to take us to our place of destiny! Amen, Thank you Jesus!

Amen
