O that God meets us, when Christ comes, how He made us;
Woes, endless damnation if He meets us not thus!
Man had just sinned and knew he was right then naked,
For gone the glory that both him filled and covered,
And thoughtfully chose to cover with plant, life source;
But though life, this does not only lacked blood as source,
God’s Lamb slain long ere man sinned it looked not back to,
Christ’s Cross on Calvary Hill it didn’t point to!
So, God sourced covering from that which has blood-life,
That is when He with coats of skins clothed man well.
Thereafter plant, animal: or life, life covers;
Man, with lifeless source products him not to cover.
But in homes, God’s temple with no life they’re allowed.
So that dead things for dead things, the Scriptures allow.
Yet, life may cover both dead things and life alike.
Life covering life, being sign of inner life!
Dead things not to cover or decorate the saints;
Simple Bible truth known, practiced by N. T. saints!
Of this outward look we see implied in Scriptures:
That women of old adorned themselves thus, O sure!
And no artwork ever adorns them otherwise;
Of course, of their inward we see well told likewise.
Know we that God their clothing sanctions and commands!
Name your ‘make-ups’ one by one, tell which He commands;
And sundry ornamentations one by one too;
Or the many decorations, and paintings too;
Or these inventions on lips, nails, hairs so sorry;
And skin, pigmentation sundry humans vary,
Yet, some who their heights do ‘make up’ their ‘fashion’ way.
O that God meets us, when Christ comes, how He made us;
Woes, endless damnation if He meets us not thus!
O think of Scripture’s Phoebe in our world today:
Would she ‘make-up’ herself if here today she walks?
The Spirit, methinks one answer supplies all folks!
Great to ask: Is this mine on me of the way broad,
Or of the way narrow that the saints of old trod?
That of life must life cover: this Adam, Eve knew
When leaves they sewed together and apron made then.
And then too God Himself man clothed with life parts!
List all your ‘put-ons’ if they all be from life parts,
That gotten from life: plant; or that from plant derived;
That from life: animal; hides, leather or derived;
Or, again, that which is of plant; that is, linen;
And that coming from the animal; or woolen!
For whilst the soul needs blood for everlasting life,
The body needs be clothed with ‘interim’ life.
So, those ‘many inventions’ did God them command?
Man made upright by God heeding Satan’s commands!
For whilst God made man wonderfully, fearfully
And upright; man “has sort out many inventions”.
‘Beguiled, beguiled’, the soul in anguish bewails self.
‘Fashion, trend, the vogue’, the flesh so pumps up self.
‘Put off these’: Ruths, their souls agree with, as they ought,
Resolved within and without for blissful results;
And so walking the heavenly way through the Word,
And holiness within and without, the watchword!
Not to go the Orpah’s way that from Canaan sifts
But Ruth’s and the Root of Jesse’s heavenly lift!
O that God meets us, when Christ comes, how He made us;
Woes, endless damnation if He meets us not thus!
