Living With
An Eternal Purpose

By Sal Davi

Living with an eternal perspective requires belief that there is an existence beyond the human realm. There is nothing eternal about human existence. Being born and living for a number of years, usually less that 90, and dieing is not eternal. That there is an existence beyond death is a given and not the purpose of this writing. That there is a God is also not the purpose of this writing,”because that which may be known of God is manifest in them (man), for God has showed it unto them.” Romans 1v 19. Everyone intuitively knows God exists.

The Word of God, the Bible, is the way that God communicates with us. The message of the Bible is the story of redemption from sin through salvation by Jesus Christ. We are born with a sin nature. Jesus provided a way for us to free ourselves from sin and be redeemed from that sin nature when He died for us on the cross. All we need to do now is follow Romans 10 v 9,” that if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in thy heart that God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved.”

Being saved means that your name is written in heaven and you are now a citizen of heaven. When you experience physical death, your spirit and soul will leave your physical body and enter a new heavenly body and your heavenly life will be eternal.

Knowing we have eternal life when we die, what do we do with the life we are living here on earth between now and when God calls us home to be in heaven? It could be years before we are called home. In the meantime,we must live with an eternal perspective keeping our hearts and minds in line with God's Word. Here are steps you can take to keep an eternal perspective in an increasingly corrupt world.

Know the Bible

2Timv15 tells us,” Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” Notice we are commanded to study God's Word. Study means to give diligence to; to understand not just read. Rightly dividing means to hold a straight course or think clearly in line with what is being said.

In almost 2000 years that the Bible has been in existence, the Bible has been found to have no errors. The Bible is truth. Truth defines the nature of the Bible.

Live a Yielded Life

Living with an eternal perspective not only requires knowledge of the Word, we must also live a yielded life. Again we have a command from the Word.”Let not sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey the desires thereof. Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but yield yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law but under grace.” Romans 6v12-14. We are free from sin! Halleluiah!

Live a Separated Life

In Romans 1v1 Paul makes this statement,” Paul,a bond servant of Jesus Christ, separated unto the gospel of God.....” In chapter 8v35-39 he makes the statement about our separation,” Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: For your sake we are killed all day long, we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, not things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Amazing! Nothing natural or spiritual can separate us from the love of God. This really inspires our faith!

Live A Spirit Filled Life

Ephesians 5 v 18-20 tells us,” And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess, but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things unto God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

These are four spiritual instructions. Many times human circumstances keep us from spiritual experiences that we need in our lives. We have read in Scripture where the things of this world choke out the Word. It is imperative that we become principled about our way of of knowing God and learn to block out the things of this life that impair our spiritual vision and growth. Live by God's principles.

Principles are either a revelation or a declaration that explain how the laws of the Kingdom of God affect or should affect man. Principles are subject to man's free will. He can accept and follow them or he can ignore them. Either way Spiritual laws will govern your life one way or another. God's principles (wisdom) if followed can teach you how to live correctly in the context of Kingdom Laws.

Some Kingdom Laws (these are only a few) would be the Law of Genesis-everything reproduces according to its kind; The Law of Purpose- every created thing and every Word of God has divine purpose; the Law of Sewing and Reaping- you will reap according to what you sew in the spiritual and the natural worlds; The Law of Faith- You are justified (made holy) by faith; and The Law of Sin and Death-Romans 8v13,” For if you live after the flesh you shall die, but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live.” Again these are only a few of the Kingdom Laws.

Principles do not move, they do not change. They will always be there for you. If you follow the principles of God, you can expect conflict from the world. Make a decision today that you will leave the consequences of conflict to God and His sovereignty. Yield and surrender your life to God and follow the principles of the Word.

Living by religious principles is nothing new. When George Washington finished his last term in office as president of the United States, he gave a farewell address. In it he stated,” Let us with caution indulge in the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion ....reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can be maintained without religion.”

Yet today, the government of the United States is doing everything it can to separate religion from morality. By taking God out of our schools, our courtrooms, our parks and public buildings and by legalizing the murder of millions of innocent children through abortion, and because our churches have become warm or cold in their zeal for God, we are in danger as a nation. This nation was dedicated to God on the day it was born and therefore we have a covenant with God. Where was our nation dedicated to God on the day it was born? In New York City at Ground Zero. God help America.

There isn't much time left before Jesus comes. Find your eternal perspective and start living by it. God offers life;” I (God) have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live, that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.” Deut. 30V19

Do not let sin or any other problem in your life stop you from living with an eternal perspective. Turn to God and He will welcome you with open arms and God will use you. Joan Hunter in her book,”Power to Heal” has a chapter entitled,”Am I Qualified”. In it she says,” No matter what problem might be keeping you from being used of God; whether it is sin in your life, a physical or emotional difficulty, a social or a relationship issue, a financial crisis, remember that God is not limited by your circumstances. The next time you feel that God can't use you, just remember, Noah drank too much, Abraham was too old, Jacob was a liar, Leah was ugly, Joseph was abused, Moses had a speech problem, Gideon was afraid, Samson was a womanizer, Rahab was a prostitute, Jeremiah was too young, Timothy had a weak stomach, David had an affair and was a murderer, Elijah was suicidal, Jonah ran from God, Naomi was a widow, Job went bankrupt, Peter denied Christ, Martha worried about everything, the Samaritan woman was divorced more than once, Zacchaeus was too small, and Lazarus was dead.

These are some of the people God chose to use in the Bible. Are you qualified? YOU BET YOU ARE! Start today-identify your eternal perspective, begin to live by principles found in the Word of God. See yourself being used by God, pray and receive His blessings and turn your troubles over to the Lord. Experience His joy and peace.
