The shepherd saw the Lord in a dream;
It’s been a while He appeared to him.
Oh what a delight to receive the Light.
As in the transfiguration shinning bright,
Still qualified He came to him to sup.
In either of the Lord’s hand was a cup,
One on the right and the other on the left,
The cups sparkling at their crystal best;
“Arise and drink” said the King of Kings.
“The right hand first” His voice rings!
The shepherd rose from the bed’s edge;
Took the cup and lifted it up to his head,
Refreshingly hot like early morning tea.
“Thank you Jesus my Lord” said he.
The Lord stretched out the other hand;
Shepherd drank but yet to understand,
Behold, ‘twas quite cool and satisfying;
All the way tickling and refreshing.
Then appeared a third cup floating.
“Try drinking it too” Jesus said frowning,
But the shepherd choked and threw up;
He could not drink this third cup!
“So will I vomit you out Oh shepherd”!
Said the loving graceful Chief Shepherd,
“If you’re neither hot nor cold”!
Merciful Lord keep me in the fold!
