" For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." ( John 3:16 )
What do you think is the most popular Bible verse ? That's right, you guessed it. ( John 3:16 ) So, let's take a look at this all favorable verse, by giving a simple commentary.
Here we see that the main focus is the true living God. Not a dead prophet, not a psychic, not a spiritualist, but the living God of the universe. The God who simply spoke the world into being.( Genesis 1:1 )
God is Omnipresence, meaning He is everywhere. ( Psalm 139:7-12 ) God is Omniscience, meaning He knows all actual and possible things.( Matthew 11:21 ) God is Omnipotence, meaning all power. ( Revelation 19:6 ).
Even with all these attributes, God took the time to give us an escape ( 1 John 4:14 ) from the dreadful sin of the Garden of Eden. ( Genesis 3:1-7 )
God not only loved, but He "so" loved. ( Ephesians 2:4-5 ) Love is the best known but least understood of all God's attributes. ( Psalm 36:5 -) God makes it plain here that he "so" loved. One Christmas I was given the best gift, ever received, and the first sentence out of my mouth was that I was "so happy". Don't you think, each time a sinner comes to God, through Jesus Christ, that God is "so" happy. I know the angels rejoice, why not God ? ( Luke 15:10 )
God's love reaches out to all mankind.( Jeremiah 29:11 ) Not just one demographic culture, but all races and genders. Not only did God make salvation available to all, ( Titus 3:4-5 ) but He expected us, as Christians, to do the same, ( Acts 1:8 ) in witnessing for Him.
The fact that God gave His son, reaches back to His love for us. Way back in the Garden of Eden, when our first parents sinned, ( Genesis 3:6-7 ) God made a way for our escape. ( Genesis 3:15 ) ( 1 John 4:9-11)
Since mans sinful fall, in the Garden of Eden, mankind needed a redeeming power to bring man back into fellowship with God. Therefore, God sent His "only son" to earth in human form, so that man could relate to the real trials and temptations of life.(Ephesians 2:4-5 ) Also, man was able to physically relate to the death on the cross ( Romans 5:8 ) ( Galatians 2:20 )and the resurrection. ( 1 Cor 15:1-5) ,
You see, God sent His son, to take our place as sinners. Thus, He died in our place.( Matthew 20:28 ) for our redemption. In other words, to pay the price for our sins. ( 2 Peter 2:1 ) ( 1 John 1:7-9 )
Salvation is for all throughout the entire world, who by faith, will except God's free grace. ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ) ( John 4:34 ) ( 1 Timothy 2:6 ) ( Hebrews 7:25 ) ( 2 Cor 5:15 )
Our salvation is conditioned solely on faith in Jesus Christ. Nearly 200 times faith, or belief, is stated as the single condition in the N.T. ( John 1:12 ) ( Acts 16:31 ) Our faith must be placed in Christ as one's substitute for and Saviour from sin.
One must believe in God's plan of salvation, to be saved. ( Acts 16:30-31 ) ( John 1:12 ) Trusting in Jesusí sacrifice for you is the only way to find forgiveness from God and to start a new relationship with Him. ( Revelation 3:20 ) ( 1 John 1:9 ) ( Romans 10:9-10 ) You see, the acquitted are those who have believed in Him; the condemned, those who have rejected Him.
I realize it is not easy to believe someone whom you have never seen, with regards to the most important matter of eternal destiny, but this and only this is the way to be saved. ( Acts 4:12 )
There are many synonyms for perish, die, expire, pass away, etc. However, none of these are true here, as God is referring to one's perishing, as being separated from His love. You see, once one is born, life will continue forever, ( Matthew 25:46 ) either in the presents of glory land. Or, separated from God in hell. ( Luke 16:19-31 ) ( Hebrews 9:27 ) ( Romans 1:18-23 )
This new lasting life, or new quality of life, is given all who come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. ( 1 John 5:13-14 ) ( Revelation 3:5-9 ) ( Luke 18:29-30 ) ( Romans 2:7 )( Titus 3:7 )
I sincerely hope this brief synopsis of John 3:16 helps you in your Christian life. As well as helping you witness for Jesus Christ.
Jesus said it was an error not to know what the Scriptures teach (Matthew 22:29). Peter also pointed out that distorting the Scriptures is also a grievous error which will lead destruction (2 Peter 3:16).
You see, you may have a precious family Bible sitting on your coffee table. Does that Bible, just sitting there, make you a better Christian ? All of us, to whom Jesus speaks through the scriptures, must come to Him to have life. We must obey Jesus to be saved. ( Romans 10:9-10 ) ( Hebrews 7:25 ) ( Revelation 22:17 )
