Come oh weary and you worn
wayward wicked as by tearful trouble torn,
enter His glad ship e'en as you guilty mourn,
for this vessel's fit for souls by sin untimely born.

The captain and commander, our pilot and our guide,
who himself sailed waters crushing narrow and most threatening wide,
passing Scylla and Charybdis in a cresting, vi'lent tide,
stands at once on danger's prow and at your frightened side.

For he mastered heaven's seas and its denizens did strong subdue,
when like Achilles warring brave and Ulysses tested true,
all hostilities he defied and Poseiden's clan o'erthrew,
that after flying past Oylmpus' loft he would send the mystic dew.

Admiral and Apostle, Head and Chief of rank,
who though swallowed by the bitter brine he drank,
appeared alive to death and light to darkened quarters dank,
raising out the ocean tomb Jonah's seed where'er they drowning sank.

Come oh weary and you worn
wayward wicked as by tearful trouble torn,
enter His glad ship e'en as you guilty mourn,
for this vessel's fit for souls by sin untimely born.
