It's funny how when I was little, I couldn't wait to grow up. I couldn't wait to graduate school, start a job, drive a car, find a husband, and have a family. And now that I'm older, I just wish I could go back to being a kid. How I wish I could just go back in time and tell myself to slow down and enjoy the little things in life.
But what's great about being a kid, is having childlike faith...where you believe that anything is possible, you're fearless, and the sky is the limit!
Recently, I got to experience childlike faith through my nieces, Megan and Ava. While visiting, I noticed both girls had piggy banks and were collecting change. I immediately wanted to pitch in, because I remember how exciting it was to gather pennies and nickles and place them in my very own piggy bank. So I ran over to my purse and began to dig through my wallet and the bottom of the purse, where apparently all the change collects. I grabbed everything I had, which couldn't have been more than 75 cents, and split up the coins between the two girls. I loved how their faces lit up with excitement, and they both ran to their own rooms to put away the coins.
I followed Ava into her room, since she needed help getting her piggy bank down. When I went to grab it, I realized how heavy it was, and was surprised there was so many coins in the bank. I said to the excited four year old girl standing in front of me, "My goodness this is heavy, what are you saving your money for?" I was expecting her to say a dog, or a new doll of some sort, but to my surprise, she looked at me with big brown eyes and said, "I'm saving it up so I can take it to church and give it away!"
I learned so much from my niece that day, and will never forget how excited she was to save up her money and give it away. Can you even begin to imagine what this world would be like if we all had that kind of childlike faith in us. That fearless, anything is possible type of attitude.
Although we can't go back to being kids again, I do believe we can have that kind of childlike faith. If we ask God, he can change our hearts, and give us a fearless, anything is possible attitude. One that doesn't leave room for greed and self doubt. He even calls us His "children!" I know I want to live like that, love like that, and give like that. Do you?
